Victoria - "Rebuilding
Paradise"
In
response to the tsunami disaster that struck Thailand and so many
other countries on 26th December 2004, The Royal Thai Consulate
-General in Melbourne in conjunction with the combined
Thai community of Victoria has established the
Thai Disaster Fund, Victoria Inc to coordinate fund
raising efforts in Victoria. The Fund has been
incorporated with the Consumer Affairs, Victoria (registration number A0046752C) and
has also been registered as a
fundraising organisation.
The fund is
a not for profit fund with all proceeds to be channelled
to the Thai Red Cross for specifically nominated disaster reconstruction and relief
projects in Thailand focussed at relieving
individuals rather than businesses.
Funds will be tax deductible receipted by the Australian
Red Cross who will pass all proceeds onto the Thai Red
Cross.

In addition to numerous donations by individuals and
businesses there have been a number of specific
events including a fund raising evening by local Thai
restaurants on Sunday January 9th which
donated up to 50% of their takings that night and Revolver night club held a Thai
Tsunami Benefit concert on January 10th with all proceeds

raising funds for this Fund.

concert was held on Monday February 7th 2005
featuring popular Thai singers and film stars.
