Sunshine Friends Concert for MarysvilleFederation Square Sunday 21 March 2010 7pm to 10pmThe Thai Festival weekend that started with ThaiFest@Marysville at Marysville Central at 5pm on Friday 19 March and all day Saturday 20 March; continued with the 7th Annual Thai Culture and Food Festival at Federation Square, River Terrace and Birrarung Marr Melbourne on Sunday 21 March 2010 ending with an explosive free musical extravaganza presenting some of Australia's best loved rock legends - Normie Rowe, Doug Parkinson, Kevin Borich, Issi Dyeand the sensational all girl group TiaraThis free "Sunshine Friends Concert for Marysville" is part of the Thai community's fund raising efforts to assist Marysville and District in encouraging tourists back to the region. The purchase price of a special souvenir concert programme will be contributed to the fund and is the entry ticket to a competition to with a great Rock'n'Roll Memorabilia prize. The concert name has been borrowed from the title of a song written some 30 years ago by Billy Thorpe and Tony Barber, members of the ledendary Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs rock'n'roll band. The song was not released until Australia Day 2010. The song's opening line "Australia is a sunshine kinda country, you feel her warmth in everyone you meet" encapsulates the way Australians always reach out to each other in times of dire need. The singing of this new Australian Anthem is intended to be a symbolic tribute tribute and thank you to Australia's Thai community and to everyone that has been a "sunshine friend" to the people of Marysville and district.
