The 2005 Festival in Federation Square Melbourne will focus on the following 6 themes promoting:

  • Thai culture

  • Multi-cultural society and unity

  • Tourism

  • Thai products

  • Fun & entertainment

  • Food & drink

The festival will start at 10am with a Buddhist ceremony and finish at 9pm. From 5pm till 9pm the riverbank will feature "Thai night by the river"

COUPON SYSTEM FOR 2005 FESTIVAL

The 2005 Festival food and drink vendors will use a coupon system to speed up food and drink delivery and for hygiene purposes. Coupons can be bought at the coupon tent between the square and the riverbank and also from roving Festival Coupon vendors alongside the food and drinks tents in $6 and $2 values.

All main dishes will be $6, Thai Singha beer will be $4; and soft drinks will be $2.

 

1.                  Promoting Thai Culture

·       Buddhist ceremony, including sprinkling water on Monks hands, with  a marquee for offering collections

·       Thai Boxing, sword fighting, stick fighting, musical instruments

·       Different teams of Thai traditional dancers

                                                                    

2.                  Promoting Multi-Cultural Society & Unity

·       Origin and history of Thai Culture

·       Regular narratives and highlights of Thai and Australian community interaction

·       Finish the stage show with Auld Lang Syne.  Lots of people on stage sing together, lyrics on screen, link arms on stage and in audience

 

3.                  Promoting Tourism

·       Shows from the 4 regions: North, North East, Middle and South. Region/province map on screen and tourist attractions

·       Tourism Authority of Thailand videos – before Buddhist ceremony and finishing off the day; Travel and Airline information stalls.

·       “Thai night by the river”  – food, jazz & drinks

 

4.                  Promoting Thai Product

·       Fashion show – promoting Thai Silk

·       “Bangkok Fashion City” project

·       Thai village product (Special promotion OTOP)

·       Product stalls , clothes, jewellery & souvenirs

 

5.                  Fun & Entertainment

·       Beauty contest “Miss Songkran 2005”

·       Traditional Drum parade

·       Thai Beer Garden Stage – Thai Pop & Jazz music all day & night.

·       Thai movie at night

·       Lots of audience participation

6.                  Food & Drink

·       20 Restaurant Food stalls – all day & into the night

·       “Thai Kitchen to the World “project

·       Cooking demonstration & class – audience participation

·       Information leaflets on Thai herbs & spices

·       Dry food & Dessert stalls
