Event details and programme for ThaiFest@Marysville 19/20 March 2010 Event DetailsThe Festival will start at 5pm on Friday 19 March 2010 on the gardens next to the newly built Marysville Central. There will be bands playing live music on the Thai Festival stage and you will be able to enjoy wonderful Thai food and Thai BBQ; relax in the licenced Singha beer garden alongside the Steavenson River sampling Thailand's beer - Singha and also wines from the local wineries. On Saturday 20 March 2010 ThaiFest@Marysville swings into action around 10am. Heralded by the Traditional and colourful Thai drum parade, the amazing Thai dance and perfmance group Sbun-Nga direct from Thailand will open the days proceedings. followed at 11.35 am with a formal opening ceremony and the lighting of a Torch of Prosperity. During the afternoon there will be continuous perfomances on the Thai Festival stage at Marysville Central featuring performances from Sbun- Nga, great jazz from the Melbourne Jazz Ensemble. Thai dance, Muay Thai kick boxing and music performances and much much more. The local community will also be involved through local school children performing a special dance; and reading out essays on wisdom gained from their Black Saturday experiences. There will be a special Buddhist talk and blessing of holy water; to be followed by a tree planting ceremony involving local children. And to complete the cycle of Earth, Fire, Water and Wind - we will feature Chiang Mai umbrellas and kite painting - to be followed by a presentation of the umbrellas and kites to Marysville. There will be wonderful Thai food and desserts from Popys Thai restaurant; a thai BBQ and lots of local community product and drinks stalls, including wine tastings and bottle sales. The cafe's in Marysville will also be open and happy to serve you their delicious local food. So come and experience a part of Thailand in Marysville - its a small gesture from the Thai community to help the recovery of Marysville and District after Black Saturday. ThaiFest@Marysville will close at 6pm and opens at 10am on Sunday 21 March 2010 at Federation Square for the 7th annual Thai Culture and Food Festival. which includes at 7pm the Sunshine Friends Concert for Marysville featuring Aussie Rock legends, Normie Rowe, Doug Parkinson, Kevin Borich, Issi Dye, Tony Barber with support from Tiara. All net proceeds to be donated towrards a Marysville and District community project. Program details ( subject to change):
